Archaeological Complex of Toro Muerto (T)

Jarek Pokrzywnicki Poland - 30-Aug-19

Archaeological Complex of Toro Muerto (T)

Site visited in November, 2013. Finally it has been added to tentative places. One of the best petroglyph site I have ever seen, can be compared only with Tamgaly in Kazakchstan.

The best place to start exploration of the site is a small town of Corire, some 3 hours by bus from Arequipa (doable as a day trip if you stay in Arequipa). While in Corire you have 2 options to reach the site. One is walk - around 3 km from Corire center (mind that the last part of the road is barren lanscape with no shadow - in hot days it may be difficult. Other option is to take a taxi from central Corire. The taxi will take you there, wait for you and take you back to Corire, prices are negotiable.

Ombilin Coal Mining Heritage of Sawahlunto

Jarek Pokrzywnicki Poland - 29-Aug-19

Ombilin Coal Mining Heritage of Sawahlunto

Site visited in August, 2019, Just a few weeks after inscription. Nice surprise. I managed to see 2 components out of 3: coal storage facilities located in Padang (port of Emmahaven), and mining town Sawahlunto.

Initially visited those storage facilities in Padang – area is not marked by any means – you should use location from a website (exact coordinates 0°59'28.7"S 100°22'51.6"E). Site consists of warehouses, infrastructure and different machineries connected with coal. The whole site looks as unused and a bit neglected for some time but is still fenced – the only access is from western part of Jl Tj. Priuk road. As for August 2019 the site looks as completely unprepared for mass tourism but you can visit all places at your own risk – some areas are not very secure. The site can be reached from Padang central area (around 7 km) by Go Jek or by local public transport (minibuses)

Krzemionki prehistoric striped flint mining region

Jarek Pokrzywnicki Poland - 19-Jul-19

Krzemionki prehistoric striped flint mining region

Site visited in early 90ties and revisited shortly after inscription (July 2019).

I must say I really like this place. Comparing to Spiennes it is better preserved and much more interesting. It is also well maintained and prepared for mass tourism. All that applies to main component (Krzemionki Opatowskie) - area located between villages Sudół and Magonie (coordinates 50.971817, 21.491227). It is a place where former Krzemionki village was located, now it is only museum and archeological reserve of former flint mining.

Great Himalayan National Park

Jarek Pokrzywnicki Poland - 24-Mar-19

Great Himalayan National Park

Site visited recently - March, 2019.

As always in similar cases it is not easy to distinguish actual boundaries of Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP). On a road Aut - Banjaar, especially after passing Tirthan river I saw many posts suggesting that you are on the premisses of GHNP, but following the official map I think that park in this part starts only from Sairopa village located on Banjaar - Gushaini road. Reaching that place you are already in so called eco zone, but to reach core zone of GHNP you should go to Gushainin and take a 4-5 km trek from there (1,5 hours, one way).

Manama, City of Trade, Multiculturalism and Religious Coexistence (T)

Jarek Pokrzywnicki Poland - 17-Nov-18

Manama, City of Trade, Multiculturalism and Religious Coexistence (T)

Just returned (November 2018) from short Bahrain trip. While in Bahrain you have to see Manama center as the majority of hotels / hostels, car rentals or bus terminals are there.

I have a lot of doubts for any future inscription of this site. Historical places and buildings like Bab al Bahrain, located nearby old post office or old court (that you can see on the photo) seem to be well maintained but in my opinion they do not constitude any integrity. Unfortunately they are surrounded by completely new sky scrapers. Old souqs may be old but all the shops look also very modern. Older buildings - at least those to the east of Bab al Bahrain - does not look very special, just typical as in any other cities in the Gulf Region.
