I was going to say the Spomeniks are spread across a lot of countries rather than just Croatia.

However, seeing the ones that have been dropped on a national basis I think I may swap one in for the Spomeniks (lovely as they are I don't think they will be in the final 50, but they are magnificent and feature in my future travel plans).

Chauvet is the best of them from my point of view but I'm pretty sure it will become a WHS in the next couple of years anyway.

So I think I may swap in Cape York but extend it to include the Torres Strait Islands as well, though I realise culturally the islanders are more closely related to PNG.

I don't know enough about the Philippines, and the US sites don't do much for me so Cape York and the islands of the Torres Strait (M) it is for me.

Since there's really a lot of them now overall, why don't we just do the following: everyone selects out of this list his/her 15 favourites, irrespective of gaps in the current WHL. The highest voted ones then become the Top 50 (+/-) Missing Sites. What do you think? This may be easier than discussing on which ones to eliminate...

Were we going to delete the sites Assif mentioned? He suggested 5 sites for the original Top 50 missing, but now feels they don't make the cut.

Can we remove Japan from the Major Buildings of Frank Lloyd Wright? This is a US Tentative nomination. There is no point to include Japan in this nomination.

I think there about 10-15 sites that are unanimously considered Top 50. Do we really have to vote on these? Dzongs of Bhutan, Nan Madol, Bagan, etc?

I did not see, Greece - The Palace of Knossos (#) (31/01/2003) C

meltwaterfalls:
Cape York and the islands of the Torres Strait

It is entirely appropriate for this potential site to include the Torres Strait islands from a cultural, natural and geological perspective. And indeed to potentially incorporate parts of PNG with shared values. Unlikely to happen for political reasons but that's not relevant to this list!

For clarification, it's worth noting Kikori River Basin / Great Papuan Plateau on PNG's T-list incorporates extensive areas on rainforest and Ras Mohammed on Egypt's T-list is a Sinai Marine Reserve.

If we're going to vote, it doesn't matter to delete them first.

I would be happy to vote for a top 10 (or top 15) from the list above compiled by Khuft.

I deleted that one because it's included already in Minoan palaces, which we already had before.

So each person can submit 10 or 15 favorites? Once this round is done we repeat the process until we reach 50? Before anyone starts with official voting, maybe we should lay down some general guidelines or rules?

I would say: 10 is enough, and we do not have to end exactly at 50

If everyone provides a list of nominations ordered by preference we can then calculate a overall ranked list by allocating a number to each position and adding the numbers for each site. You would then only need 1 round of voting.

I think we could do something on survey monkey.

I think it shouldn't come up against any data barriers on the free version. It would be easier to get the results out rather than keeping a running tally (though Assif, Khuft and winterkjm are doing a sterling job on that).

As an example this is what I created in 5 mins using Khuft's list from post #62. (It could do with a fair bit of tidying up but it gives an idea of what can be done)

I don't mind if people fancy doing it on the forum, just thought I would put the suggestion out there and I'm happy to set it up/ collate if we choose that option.

I personally find it very difficult to rank the sites. I think it would be better to just list the best ones with one (equal) vote for each of the sites proposed.
If we use the easy tool proposed by meltwaterfalls (thanks!) we could even give the option to nominate up to 50 sites each and see where the support goes.

meltwaterfalls tool requires ranking the sites. Only all sites after the first 15 are ranked equally!

We can set it however we like, That example just had the ranking included, we can easily strip it out if that is the consensus, likewise with limiting it to 15 votes. It can be tailored however we like.

I have got a different idea. We (meltwaterfalls) can set it so that we should rate all sites on the lists. I am thinking of something like Michelin 3 stars, 2 starts, 1 star, no star rating. Then we could sum up the points. The advantage is that we can rate the sites without ranking them and without limiting ourselves to any number. I would also include sites from the four long lists. These should add more or less 40 sites to the list of candidates and should not cost to much effort to rate.
