Art and Architecture in the Prehistory of Sardinia. The domus de janas. (T)

Tony0001 - 14-Feb-24

Yesterday and today I visited some sites of the "domus de Janas" sites.

1) Anghelu Ruju near Alghero. This site is rather big with some 40 graves. There is entrance fee, and good explanation.

2) Su Crucifissu Mannu near Porto Torres. This site is near a farm. You can free visit. No entrance fee, no explanation. Not so many graves.

3) Altar of Monte d' Accoddi between Porto Torres and Sassari. This one is not similar at all to the other ones, but in my opinion most interesting site from the ones I saw. It is build in third millennium before Christ.

Historic Town of Beypazarı (T)

Tony0001 - 28-Sep-21

Today I visited Mudurnu and Beypazari. The description says a little town (Beyparazi), but i would rather describe it as a city. The hill with the houses looks nice, you can walk there and do a nice walk, however the better walk is in Mudurnu. If I interpreted right, it is the plastre that should make it world heritage. Both have quite some similarities with Safranbolu by the way.

What I really enjoyed on the way from Mudurnu to Beyparazi is the scenery around Nallihan: beautifull coloured hills, really a joy for the eyes. This was the real highlight of my day.

Historic Guild Town of Mudurnu (T)

Tony0001 - 28-Sep-21

Mudurnu is a nice town to visit, but in my eyes no world heritage.

You can walk there and see nice things, the little museum with old stuff is nice.

But what is really worth the drive is this: Burj Al Babas Villa (check the images on google) just outside Mudurnu if you drive to Beyparazi.

Certainly no world heritage, but one of the most remarkable things i have ever seen ....

Liftah (Mey Naftoah) – Traditional mountain village (T)

Tony0001 - 10-Feb-18

Liftah is and abandonned small town in a valley. You find there some houses left in 1948, in the state as they were then, but in the state you expect after 70 years. Besides houses there is a spring and a small pond. It is surroundes with a few big motorways. Parking space is limited near the site. I went down into the valley, did a small walk till the end of the town and went back up the steep hill. Never can believe this becomes world heritage one day...

Ein Karem, a village and its cultural landscape (T)

Tony0001 - 10-Feb-18

Today I visited the town of Ein Karem. It is only a short ride from Jerusalem. Ein Karem has many religious buildings, but none seems old or very special. The environment is nice to walk.

I think the outstanding universal value has to be that John The Baptist has been born here. It was 8 in the morning when I was there, and the first buses with tourists allready arrived. My host in the hotel told this is a good place to find a restaurant on a saturday (Sabbath).

There is not a lot of parking space there. I found a small (free) car park and some spaces along the road.
