Beech Forests (Montenegro)

.

Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe (Montenegro) is part of the Tentative list of Montenegro in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List. It is a proposed extension of Primeval Beech Forests WHS.

Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe (Montenegro) encompasses the Virgin Forest Reserve within Biogradska Gora National Park. The reserve is one of the last remaining European virgin forests, and contains a high number of beech specimens of trees up to 200 years old. The Virgin Forest Reserve is an exceptional example of a beech forest within the Moesian-Balkanic Beech Forest Region, helping demonstrate how beech trees spread across Europe.
