Jakob Frenzel Profile

Jakob Frenzel
Jakob Frenzel.

I was born in 1987 in West-Berlin. Since then I have visited many places in Europe and went on four trips through the USA, to New Zealand and Thailand.
2005 I discovered the magnificance of World heritage sites and since then try not to miss any on our journeys. We even plan trips according to the locactions of WHS site, like we did in England 2018!

Blenheim Palace

Blenheim Palace

March 2018 still Roadtrip England.

We were heading back from the north in the direction of London.

Shortly before arriving at Oxford we came here to Blenheim palace. Unfortunately it is not included in the national Trust community. We had to pay something like 30 Pounds only to enter the gardens. But the gardens are really nice and the castle is also worth visiting from outside.

Close by is a butterfly house and a maze. Both are included and are worth visiting, too.

Intersiting park, definitely.

Jakob Frenzel Germany - 22-Dec-18

March 2018 - After being in Yorck we came to the Leeds area. We passed Leeds and went straight to Saltaire.

Small charming town with authentic workers accomadations and a nice factory to watch.

We went through all floors of it and were pleased we did not have to pay anything. The shops in the factory are suiting the architecture well. We enjoyed the few hours here. But WHS, I do not really believe that this place was of that big importance to human history.

Afterwardswe drove to Bradford. It has the biggest Indian community and probably the best Tikka in England

Derwent Valley Mills

Derwent Valley Mills

March 2018 Roadtrip through England.

We spent the night and half a day in Peak District hiking and counting sheep :)

Just after leaving the park we came to the WHS Derwent Valley. Unfortunately we did nor really know what to expect. Therefore we went past the most interesting town in the north hoping for some amazing architectural icons on the way. The remaining mills looked quite poorely. Some had cheap shops, some hotels. But we did nor really find a spot to stay longer.

After 45 minutes we were already at the end of the WHS. What a pity. Unfortunely one of the rather dissapointg sites on or travels so far.

Durham Castle and Cathedral

Durham Castle and Cathedral

March 2018 - Wow, what a cathedral. We walked one hour through the cathedral and one of the guides told us about the history of the building and we discovered a lot of details. There are even mauric influences, which can be seen in the pillars of the church. We also got to hear a short concert on the organs. Amazing acoustics.

The university, and the area around the cathedral is very authentic and historic. The Tourist information has a detailed exhibition on WHS. Very interesting town and good for a stopover from Newcastle to the south.

Studley Royal Park

Studley Royal Park

March 2018 - After our visit in Durham we came here to Studley. The visitor center is very nice and modern.

After the rain paused for a bit wen walked through the park. A  lot of pheasants walked around and made it an interesting experience. After a short walk we reached the ruin. It is the heart of the park and way older than the park itself. However it is not a ruin, but was never finished, at least thats what we learned in a documentary about Studley. The rest of the park is not that spectacular, but certainly a good example for English Garden Architecture.
