Jakob Frenzel Profile
I was born in 1987 in West-Berlin. Since then I have visited many places in Europe and went on four trips through the USA, to New Zealand and Thailand.
2005 I discovered the magnificance of World heritage sites and since then try not to miss any on our journeys. We try to plan trips according to the locactions of WHS sites. That way we visited 18 sites in England 2018! And 28 sites on a trip to the Normandy. More trips like that are planned.
The German Televison produces short documentaries on each site, called Schätze der Welt, which I record and love to watch with the whole family. I recommend it to every WHS enthusiast.

Brâncusi Monumental Ensemble of Târgu Jiu

August 2024 - On our way from southern Romania back to Hungary we still wanted to make a stop at this freshly inscribed WHS. It was the so far hottest day on the trip. And there was large traffic jam when we approached Targu Jiu.
So not the best visiting conditions. Additionaly, when we passed the column, there was no spot to park or even halt for a short moment. So only I jumped out, took some humoristic photos and we continued to find a public swimming Pool. It wasn't that easy but we succeeded and spent the night on its parking lot.

August 2024 - after visiting the Horezu Monastery we made a small detour to still visit the coules. Although the architectural style may be unique, the nomination is rather a joke. You can visit one coules and the Museum for 2€ on the opposite site there was another, which was only viewable from outside. From my pespective nothing noteworthy

August 2024 - After visiting Alba Iulia, we still drove all the way to Sibiu and stayed at at a campsite next to the airport. We had been too tired to visit that evening but did so next morning.
Hermannstadt was always on our itinerary since it claims the status of Europes Cultural Capital in 2007. But it seems to have become a destination for budget flights with gastronomic offers aiming for this specific group.
Architecture wise it is very typical habsburgian with only few Transylvanian specificities around the bridge of liars. After the stroll through the centre we continued to Shigishoara.

August 2024 - the last days of our roadtrip returning fromm Romania we passed this little village. A steep road is guiding to the villages parking lot. You have to pay an entrance fee, which enhances the museum-character of this village. Visiting all wooden houses and some interiors can be completed within an hour. Make sure to visit the only restaurant in Vlkolinec which has wonderful Bryndzove Pirohe i Buchty na pare. The village is remarkable due to its wonderful surrounding landscape. 35 years ago i still remember some polish villages which looked similar.

August 2024 - it was one of the hottest days during our trip. Luckily we found a camping spot at the local Swimmingpool which was included in the fee and seems to be the only spot to cool down in this town.
In the evening it became more bearable for a stroll through the old town. It is definitely a wonderful old town, but also too much of a tourist place loaded with souvenir shops and italian-style restaurants. I regret not visting the old town next morning again, without the tourist masses. Summing up, I expected a bit more of this one, but it was a nice visit.
