Jakob Frenzel Profile

Jakob Frenzel
Jakob Frenzel.

I was born in 1987 in West-Berlin. Since then I have visited many places in Europe and went on four trips through the USA, to New Zealand and Thailand.
2005 I discovered the magnificance of World heritage sites and since then try not to miss any on our journeys. We try to plan trips according to the locactions of WHS sites. That way we visited 18 sites in England 2018! And 28 sites on a trip to the Normandy. More trips like that are planned.

The German Televison produces short documentaries on each site, called Schätze der Welt, which I record and love to watch with the whole family. I recommend it to every WHS enthusiast.

Vila Viçosa, Renaissance ducal town (T)

Vila Viçosa, Renaissance ducal town (T)

October 2020 - after spending few hours in Evora we still scheduled a  stopover in the marvel town of Vila Vicosa. Already on the way we passed several quarries and trucks which transported the white gold to somewhere. We arrived in the town, parked at the castel and took a walk to the Paco Ducal. The palace is beautiful, the facade shimmers blueish/silver and also a walk through the town reveals some further nice spots. I would not be dissapointed if it should be inscribed.

Definitely good side to squeeze in between Evora and Elvas.

Evora

October 2020 - despite the pandemic and german travel warnings for parts of Portugal, we decided to stick with our original plans from beginning of the year and flew to Lisbon, rented a camper and made a wonderful roadtrip with our 22 months old daughter.

Beginning south of Lisbon at the North west tip of the Costa Vicentina, we continued our trip to the spanish border. Shortly before arriving Evora we visited Beja (I guess it will be part of the Camino Portugues nomination) with its medival torre and churches. Driving further north we could shortly after marvel at the silhoutte of Evora.

Holasovice

Holasovice

September 2014 - I have quite good memory about this tiny picturesque village. I sent my parents here a year before with the remark that it is a WHS. When they came back, they were like "seriously?". I wanted to see it myself. After spending the morning in Pilsen and visiting the brewery we drove further to Cesky Krumlov. With a small detour you can easily visit holasovice on that Tour. We walked into the local Tourist Information, bought some Souvenirs (handmade Krtek christmas hangers) and meandered through the village. In the south east corner we bought a big jar of Honey, took some nice pictures and shortly after continued our drive to cesky Krumlov. The village is nicely preserved  and certainly a good example

Žatec – the Hops Town (T)

September 2014 - I finished my studies and we bought an old VW Campervan to drive around Europe. So we switched to vanlife for  few weeks.

Starting our journey, we headed south via Dresden to Czechia. Our first Twhs was Zatec. Since I am a brewing scientist, I was happy to see finally a beer spot on the list. I was quite disappointed, when Mechtild Rössler read out on the Whs meeting the deferal of the "town of hope". Obviously she did not even know what hops is and that it is a fundamental ingredient for beer.

Ayutthaya

Ayutthaya

July 2016 - after visiting Sukhothai we took the night bus to Ayutthaya. The bus driver lkicked us out at 5:30 in the morning at the motorway and we still had about 4 km to walk to the temples. A french couple who was also in the bus joined us and we made the morning walk. When we arrived at the temples, the entry was still closed, and the sun just appeared at the horizon. We were exhausted and hungry, so jumped the fence and made us comfortable at the first temple for breakfast with the remaining crackers we had in our luggage. A few strolling dogs enjoyed our company and jumped around the ruins. That was definitely the highlight. Us, the dogs, dawn at the temples
