Îles volcaniques de Sao Tomé et Principe (T)

GerhardM Austria - 04-Jan-24

We visited Sao Tome in 2021, during Covid Time. We did not visit the sister island of Principe.

We spent there one week.

Our journey took place via Lisboa and Ghana/Accra by TAP Airways. For the last leg of our journey from Accra to Sao Tome the flight takes about one hour and twenty minutes.

The airport of the capital Sao Tome (same name as the state) is a small airport with a couple of flights per day.

Sao Tome and Principe is the second smallest African state.  with only about 220.000 inhabitants, but the number is fast growing like in other African countries.

GerhardM Austria - 21-Dec-23

We visited this wonderful place in 2009 and we were really overwhelmed when entering, which means going downstairs. It is a really impressing site in Gujarat, where you can discover such a lot of beautiful places.

Stepwells are a very special form of subterranean water resource and storage systems on the Indian subcontinent, and have been constructed since the 3rd millennium BC. Till now I have not heared from stepwells in other countrys.

It is a spectacular building with a long and rich history, a long way off the beaten tourist tracks. We visited this place on a 8 day journey through Gujarat whith a driver from Ahmedabad and visited it, like al lot of other people together with the sun temple of Modhera, also an interesting and really worthy place.

GerhardM Austria - 29-Jul-23

I've been to seven of these eight sites, and I've been to four of them (Mound City, Fort Ancient, Seip Mound and Newark Earthworks) more than once.  They never cease to fill me with a sense of awe.  They are immense and at the same time remarkably precise; the circular earthworks are almost perfectly round, while several of the earthworks have almost perfect astronomical alignments.  I particularly like that the people who constructed the earthworks lived in tiny hamlets in a society that was, so far as anyone can tell, remarkably egalitarian.  These sites are a sixteen hundred year old testimony to the skill, passion, knowledge and ability to cooperate of the Native Americans who made them
