Ingrid Profile

Growing up in The Netherlands, my first visit abroad was a daytrip to Belgium with my family when I was eight years old. Throughout the years I travelled further away and longer in duration, mostly in Europe and Asia. My most memorable journey so far is an around-the-world trip lasting fourteen weeks, visiting countries on five continents.

For me, the highlights of travel are hiking through a stunning landscape (or driving), being amazed by a city's architecture and traffic, watching the world pass by from behind a window on a long train journey, and getting lost in the past while visiting remains of an ancient world.

I have never travelled with a focus on WHS. But some are very hard to miss, so my first thorough count of WHS in June 2022 showed 117 visited sites. Examining the list, I can see that visiting WHS more consciously will give an extra dimension to my travels. For future travelplans I will certainly keep the list in mind.

Visiting all WHS is not my goal. Just the ones that seem interesting enough (and there are many of those!), or sites that are easy to reach. At the same time, I do like ticking off lists. Therefore, my modest short term goal is to visit all WHS in the Benelux countries.
