I just love traveling and try to travel as often as I can, no matter if to distant countries or places just around the corner.
While I usually won't do a trip just to see a certain WHS, I will stop there for sure if there are any sites in the area I'm visiting. One reason I like it so much is because that way I have seen some fascinating places I would otherwise have missed because they are not that famous or that prominent in the guidebooks.

Speyer Cathedral

Speyer Cathedral

In 2008 I went to Speyer by train and explored this wonderful city all day. It is a really worthwhile destination for a trip, not only because of the cathedral. Speyer's history goes back to more than two thousand years. A thousand years ago, it was the centre of the Salian kingdom and therefore also of the German medieval empire. The day in Speyer was wonderful because the town is just beautiful and has a very special atmosphere. It is so historical and pretty, yet, it did not feel "touristy", but had a very original and down-to-earth feeling to it. We enjoyed strolling around and taking in the atmosphere, but we also visited two museums (the Technical Museum and the Historical Museum of Palatine), the old Jewish Quarter and of course the mighty cathedral

Sydney Opera House

Sydney Opera House

Well, what else is there to say about this WHS? It is so famous, so well-known. One of the most recognizable buildings in the world for sure, and definitely one of my favourites.

I have visited Sydney twice so far (just planning my third trip for next year!) and I remember both times I first [...]

Greater Blue Mountains

Greater Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains are the perfect location for a day trip from Sydney, especially if you love nature and forest, walking and hiking. I did such a day trip twice (in 2007 and in 2010) and both visits were great. A big plus is that the National Park can be reached and explored so easily by public transport, so you do not need a car at all.

On my first trip, I had a look around the more touristy part of the region, seeing the three sisters, visiting Leura and Katoomba and doing just a short walk. On my second visit, I was much braver and did a long hike taking in many waterfalls and spectacular views

Fraser Island

Fraser Island

Fraser Island is one of the top attractions of Australia - and rightly so. It is a very special place indeed, and it is hard to describe what makes it so special, but it must have something to do with its being an island and a little remote, with the fact that there are no towns, villages or shops (there is no civilisation besides a few resorts), and also the lack of real roads (there are only some dirt roads/tracks in the sand, and the beach serves as the main road!) ...and of course with the rainforest, the beaches, and the sunshine!!!

Great Sandy World Heritage Area (T)

Great Sandy World Heritage Area (T)

In 2007 I did a trip to Fraser Island that is already a WHS, but a little earlier I visited some places in this area that are not yet part of the WHS and will be an addition if the "Great Sandy World Heritage Area" will be created. When I stayed in beautiful Rainbow Beach for a weekend, I did some bush walks in Coolala National Park. It is a beautiful park with lots of rainforest and of course lots of sand. The most impressive place was Carlo Sandblow, a HUGE sand dune with a wonderful and spectacular view of the ocean. It was one of the first places I saw in Australia and I was overwhelmed, I couldn't believe how beautiful it really was. The same goes for Wide Bay, a very long beach that lives up to its name, and with some great, colourful cliffs to explore
