Most Remote Cultural WHS

Cultural WHS that can only be reached on a very long day trip (4h or more one way, or even an overnight) from a hub. A hub is a city with decent hotels and daily commercial flights/buses to a city with an international airport. See also this blog post for background.

Dholavira: A Harappan City hub Bhuj, about 4h by car
Great Burkhan Khaldun Mountain hub Ulaan Bator, needs spending the night at a ger camp nearby
Khinalig About 4 hours from Baku City Center (taking the many speed traps and difficult terrain into account)
Mbanza Kongo 6 hours by car from Luanda
Minaret of Jam hub Herat or Bamyan, both taking some 13 hours to reach

Petroglyphs of the Mongolian Altai The hub seems to be Ölgi (with a domestic airport and 35,000 inhabitants). You’d have to stay overnight camping somewhere closer to the petroglyphs
Rudreshwara (Ramappa) Temple hub Hyderabad, 4h by car
SGang Gwaay hub Vancouver, requires a flight to Sandspit and at least taking part in a 2-day boat tour to get to the right island

Sukur Abuja airport is 14 hours away
The Royal Court of Tiébélé hub Ouagadougou, full day trip (~4 hours each way)
Tsodilo There's a minor hub at Shakawe, 40km away. But Shakawe itself requires a 6h ride on a basic bus to get to Maun.
Twyfelfontein About 6h drive from Windhoek

Suggestions?

Do you know of another WHS we could connect to Most Remote Cultural WHS?

Send it to me!

A connection should:

  1. Not be "self evident"
  2. Link at least 3 different sites
  3. Not duplicate or merely subdivide the "Category" assignment already identified on this site.
  4. Add some knowledge or insight (whether significant or trivial!) about WHS for the users of this site
  5. Be explained, with reference to a source
