The Chettinad are 11 villages of Tamil Merchants, the Natukottai Chettiars. They were built between the the 1850’s and 1940’s. Their houses show a particular architecture, with many decorations and extensions turning them into palatial constructions. The land use shows traditional Tamil techniques of water management.
