| Rohtas Fort | The Sikh "Temple of Baba Nanak" is inside the inscribed area albeit just outside the Fort (see the AB Evaluation map top left). Sikh belief is that Guru Nanak Dev Ji (1469-1539), the founder of Sikhism, visited the location of Rohtas Fort before it was built in 1541 during the third of his major journeys to spread the teachings of what was then the beginning of Sikhism. The Guru is believed to have spent 40 days atop nearby Tilla Jogian Hill before passing by Rohtas 24kms away. The Temple was built around 1834 when the area was part of Ranjits Singh's Sikh Empire. |
