Sebastia

.

Sebastia is part of the Tentative list of Palestine in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

Sebastia, known as Samaria in antiquity, was the capital of the Kingdom of Israel in the 8th and 9th centuries BCE. In Roman times it was rebuilt as Sebaste and was inhabited until the Byzantine period. The archaeological site close to the modern city of Sebastia includes remains from the Israelite, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods.
