Varakhsha

Varakhsha is part of the Tentative list of Uzbekistan in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

Varakhsha (also included in both serial nominations “Silk Roads Sites in Uzbekistan” and the listed “Silk Roads: Zarafshan-Karakum Corridor”) are the ruins of an ancient settlement and palace in the Boukhara oasis, on the Bukhara-Khorez, trade route. It was a small triangular shaped city. During excavations, painting of riders on elephants fighting mythic predators were found (now in the Hermitage Museum).
