Jaggadala Vihara

Jaggadala Vihara is part of the Tentative list of Bangladesh in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List. It is a proposed extension of Buddhist Vihara at Paharpur WHS.

The Jaggadala Vihara comprises the archaeological remains of a Buddhist monastery from the late 11th century. It was also a center of learning. A 100m long mound remains and there have been findings of terracotta sculptures.

Excavations have brought to light an impressive complex. It is located at less than 3 km from Altadighi National Park, a site of which the history is most probably linked with Jaggadala. Both sites have attractive value but deserve a lot more attention regarding management and promotion.
