Amudarya State Nature Reserve
Amudarya State Nature Reserve is part of the Tentative list of Turkmenistan in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
Amudarya State Nature Reserve protects about a 100 kilometers stretch of Amudarya river, (some of its banks right bank upstream, and left bank when the river forms the border with Uzbekistan), with periodically flooded woodlands (called tugai) and extends to parts of the Kyzyl-kum desert. It protects the river and its fishes, the tugai with a rich ecosystem, an important bird area (especially with migratory birds) and very rare mammals like the Bukhara deer (introduces in the area in the late 19th century by a Khiva Khan dignitary).
