The Palace Cave is a small cave with an exceptional formation looking like an open structure with multiple pillars. It is located about two and a half hours drive away from Montevideo in the vicinity of Chamanga TWHS. It is possible to visit on the way to Fray Bentos. After it got rejected as a WHS it successfully applied as a Unesco Geopark which also encompasses nearby Chamanga. When I was there I asked if this means Chamanga too is no longer aspiring an inscription, but I was told it still does. The Palace Cave can only be visited in a guided tour. The tour leaves the visitor centre frequently and is very cheap. You then walk to the cave where you are given some time to play around its cavities. It is a nice visit if in the area, but I believe I can see why its rejection was justified.
