Beech Forests (France)

Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe - extension (France) is part of the Tentative list of France in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List. It is a proposed extension of Primeval Beech Forests WHS. This site (or parts of it) has already been inscribed under Causses and Cévennes WHS.
The Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests of Europe represents relatively undisturbed beech forests across a variety of biogeographical areas in Europe. The French part of this extension includes eight protected areas under different environmental and climatic conditions: locations near the Atlantic coast, in the Ile-de-France region, areas with a Mediterranean climate, and mountain forests in the Pyrenees and the Alpine region.
