Paysage culturel du Lac Tchad (Cameroon)

.

Paysage culturel du Lac Tchad (Cameroon) is part of the Tentative list of Cameroon in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

Lake Chad is a large, shallow fresh water lake in the middle of a dune massif. It is covered by a hundred very spectacular islands and islets. Many of them are inhabited. At the edge of the lake, desert sands and water meet in a complex web of meanders, sometimes cultivated. The human presence around the lake dates back to the Paleolithic era. The lake is shared between Chad, Cameroon, Niger and Nigeria.
