Likiep Village Historic District

.

Likiep Village Historic District is part of the Tentative list of Marshall Islands in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

Likiep Village Historic District in Likiep Atoll consists of approximately 15 buildings constructed between 1880 and 1937 that demonstrate the history and impact of German colonization in the Pacific in the late 19th century. The architecture and landscape of the village show the influence of colonization on local architecture, the formation of a cash economy, the development of the copra trade, and the introduction of Christianity. The village also illustrates the change from the traditional land tenure system.
