Montecristi is part of the Tentative list of Dominican Republic in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

Montecristi is a historic city with Victorian houses from the 18th and 19th century. They are made out of wood with a zinc roof. The city in the coastal lowlands used to be an important trading center.
