Manyikeni and Chibuene
Manyikeni and Chibuene is part of the Tentative list of Mozambique in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
Manyikeni and Chibuene are two archeological sites occupied from around 600 to 1700. Chibuye was initially a farming community on the coast, before becoming a trading station linking southern Africa and the Indian Ocean. Manjikeni was a town marked by stone enclosure similar but much smaller than those of the Great Zimbabwe site.

I went to Manyikeni earlier this year with my wife. I've been to Great Zimbabwe and was well prepared for this to be a lot less....and indeed it was. There is a groundkeeper who lives in the one room museum and if you can't speak Portuguese he won't be much help. Having said that, if you use your imagination a little the site is an interesting stop. Best to do a little research before going as there is not much there. Best website I found was: www.mozaictravel.net/?p=646 it contains information, and the best map and directions.
