Keibul Lamjao Conservation Area

Keibul Lamjao Conservation Area is part of the Tentative list of India in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

Keibul Lamjao comprises the core of the eponymous national park, plus Loktak Lake and Pumlen Pat. The area is inhabited by the Meitei, a dominant ethnic group of Manipur, and holds their sacred places. Loktak is a large freshwater lake with floating swampy islands (Phumdi). The park was created as a wildlife sanctuary to preserve the natural habitat of the endangered Eld's deer.
