Počitelj, in Herzegovina, is a fortified village that lies on a rocky cliff on the bank of the river Neretva. Even though it suffered extensive damage during the Bosnian War, it is one of the best preserved medieval walled towns in the country. Among its most notable landmarks is the fortress, that fell to the Ottomans in 1471, and the single-room domed mosque, considered one of the finest in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Počitelj was included on the World Monuments Watch in 1996 and, in 2000, a program was implemented for its protection, rehabilitation, and revitalization. It has been used by the British Overseas Development Administration's Know-How Fund as a model for cultural heritage protection.

After visiting Mostar on my way back to Croatia I stopped to see Počitelj. I enjoyed the site but following Mostar it was a bit like having a digestive biscuit after a slice of chocolate cake.
It's quite small but enjoyable nonetheless, it's not a site I would head to if I wasn't already in the vicinity though, there's just not enough to make that worthwhile.
There's just a couple of shops catering for the tourist trade and you can wander around the narrow cobbled streets and take in the Turkish style architecture.
Just based on the site's size alone, I would be surprised if it made it to the full WHS list.

Pocitelj is situated on a hill near Mostar and is easily accessible by bus. As many other Bosnian sites, this town is Ottoman in style. It is a historic fortified town with a hostel (caravanserai) and a hamam underneath it. There is also a traditional mosque which can be visited. During the Yugoslavian War Pocitelj was badly damaged and most of its residents fled away and never returned. Nonetheless, some Bosniaks still reside in this beautiful town and you can still enjoy the unique atmosphere of their traditional houses and food.
