Parc national de Zakouma
Zakouma National Park is one of the last wildlife sanctuaries in Sahelian Africa, which still shelters decent numbers of large mammals. Zakouma is part of the Sudano-Sahelian vegetation zone, and has shrubland, high grasses, and Acacia forests. A variety of large mammals have been recorded in Zakouma, such as buffalo, elephant, Kordofan giraffe, hartebeest, leopard, and lion. The parks suffered heavily from (mainly elephant) poaching in the 2000s. The situation has improved significantly since, and the elephant numbers are rising again and rhinos have been reintroduced.
