NOSYnakà is a collection of seven marine protected areas located on the northern tip of the island. These include coral reefs, seagrass beds and very large areas of mangroves, all of which are home to significant biodiversity, as well as volcanic and karst islands. The coral ecosystems in the region are of exceptional value in terms of biodiversity and, with 300 coral species, 525 molluscs and 463 fish, are among the richest in the world. There are also important communities of birds, turtles and marine mammals. Important oceanographic and geological phenomena take place here.
