Kermadec Islands and Marine reserve
Kermadec Islands and Marine reserve is an archipelago and protected area containing the northernmost land and territorial seas of New Zealand. The islands are volcanic and form the Kermadec Islands subtropical moist forest ecoregion, which supports flora such as endemic tree ferns and the native nikau palm, and fauna such as the endemic Kermadec red-crowned parakeet. The islands are also an important seabird breeding ground, while the protected marine area serves as a rich habitat for whales and dolphins.
