Tyras - Bilhorod (Akkerman), on the way from the Black Sea to the Baltic Sea is part of the Tentative list of Ukraine in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
Tyra was an ancient Greek city founded in the late 6th century BCE on the west coast of the Dniester estuary. Due to its strategic location, it was an important trading port on the route between the Baltic Sea and the Mediterranean. In the Middle Ages, the city was newly founded and has been known under different names (e.g. Bilhorod, Akkerman). The property is a complex of monuments including the medieval Akkerman fortress and remains of the ancient city.
