Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve (extension)
Rio Platano (extension) is part of the Tentative list of Honduras in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List. It is a proposed extension of Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve WHS.
This extension mirrors the enlargement of the nationally protected areas of the Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve. It provides additional ecosystem diversity, for example in the coastal lagoons Laguna Brus and Laguna Ibans, and an enlarged contiguous block of dense tropical rainforest.
