The historic center of Nova Sintra is a neoclassical, 19th century townscape with mostly one-story private houses with gardens. It lies on the island of Brava which is known for its humid microclimate and therefore abundance of flowers and plants. It is named after Sintra, the summer residence of the Portuguese kings.
