The Historic Centre of Lucca is a Tuscan city, originally founded by the Etruscans, before becoming a Roman colony. The city still retains a Roman imprint, thanks to its regular street plan in its centre. The city is also significant for its Renaissance-era city walls that have been largely preserved. Erected to encircle the existing city, they were built as a declaration of the importance of the then city state.

There are several fortifications, squares, towers, clock towers, cathedrals and churches to explore but my personal favorites were the Torre Guinigi (with trees growing on top) and the San Michele in Foro Church. Piazza Anfiteatro should not be missed too. It is quite similar to Modena but has much more to offer in my opinion!
