Nigeria ratified the UNESCO World Heritage Convention on October 23, 1974. It has two inscribed sites: the Sukur Cultural Landscape, a cultural landscape highlighting terraced fields and Iron Age traditions, and the Osun‑Osogbo Sacred Grove, a spiritual-cultural forest site.
Its Tentative List reflects both cultural and natural ambitions, with themes like ancient urban walls, stone monoliths, slave-route cave complexes, rainforest ecosystems, and coastal‑marine conservation areas.
