Colombia ratified the UNESCO World Heritage Convention on 24 May 1983.
Its heritage includes cultural and natural sites. Cultural themes include colonial towns, port cities (Cartagena), and pre-Columbian art. Natural nominations focus on Andean biodiversity and marine landscapes, such as around Malpelo Island.
