Bangladesh accepted the UNESCO World Heritage Convention on 3 August 1983, and its World Heritage sites include both cultural and natural properties.
Cultural inscriptions feature the historic Mosque City of Bagerhat and the Buddhist Viharas at Paharpur, exemplifying medieval religious architecture, Islamic and Buddhist heritage, and major archaeological significance. Its natural listing, the Sundarbans, highlights mangrove ecosystems, deltaic ecology, biodiversity, and conservation of unique coastal wetlands.
