Queen of Sheba's Palace

Shimal (On tentative list)

Shimal: Remains of Palace

Shimal includes prehistoric cemeteries and the remains of a medieval palace (Queen of Sheba’s Palace). The cemeteries are not marked on any map I found, so we went for the easy option and visited the palace (marked on google maps). From the street you can see concrete stairs, leading up to the entrance of the palace. There is of course very little left. We found two different wells and the remains of the stone wall, as well as the base structure of the rooms. There is one small fenced off mud brick building, but nothing special. The best part of the visit is the view from the palace. As for all tentative sites, I don’t see enough OUV, but the small hike and the view made me at least feel like I did not waste my time.

The overall state of the site (looks like a real archaeological site and not a Disney village) left me with the assumption, that this place is not very high on the priority list of the UAE. I suggest you visit, before the palace is miraculously rebuilt.

I loved exploring this palace. Maybe some intrepid future visitors can track down the Wadi Sur wall component of the Julfar TWHS to find out where it ends below the hill with the palace. The wall supposedly also had a ditch, so it's possible that we were near part of it.
