During the community meetup 2018 in Bulgaria I managed to visit two locations of the Bulgarian Limes.
Sextaginta fortress
The first location was the Sexaginta fortress in Ruse, where we …
Switzerland \ Member since March 2010
I started focusing my trips on WHS in 2008. Since I live in Europe, I could greatly increase my count in the following years. Nowadays, my yearly goal is to visit more sites than are added the same year.
My trips are usually rather spontaneous and I try to maximize the time I have available by adding as many WHS and TWHS as possible, preferably completing countries or regions in one visit. For efficiency, my preferred method of transport is the combination of airplane and rental car. I’ve been driving a car in more than 50 countries, including Lebanon or India.
A major obsession of mine is to visit WHS with good weather conditions. I move or cancel trips if the forecast is bad. I also have a “revisit needed” list and travel back to WHS, where I had, sometimes due to bad weather, an unsatisfying visit.
In the upcoming years, I will shift my focus to more exotic and harder to reach sites. I also plan to keep up travelling with those community members that became good friends. No better way to celebrate a milestone or finding a hidden TWHS after navigating your car through rice fields, than with fellow enthusiasts.
Danube Limes (Bulgaria) (On tentative list)
During the community meetup 2018 in Bulgaria I managed to visit two locations of the Bulgarian Limes.

Sistema Ferrocarril Pte. Carl… (On tentative list)
The proposed components in Encarnacion are rather easy to pick up, if you visit Paraguay the lazy way (day trip from Posadas to visit the one WHS and done). The …
Durmitor National Park (Inscribed)
Visited May 2025. I started my visit to Durmitor NP, like most other visitors, from the ski resort town Zabljak. The Black Lake is only a few minutes drive and …
Gammelstad (Inscribed)
All previous reviewers have visited Gammelstad in summer, so I will add my experience of visiting the site in winter.
We profited from a rare seasonal direct flight to Lulea …
Dhayah (On tentative list)
The Dhayah landscape nomination mentions the lagoon, the palm gardens, a hill fort, tombs and mountain villages. The centre of it seems to be the fort on a 70m high …
Hatta Archaeological Landscape (On tentative list)
The nomination file for Hatta is rather confusing to me. The location marker is actually in Oman, there’s talk about geological formations, despite it being a cultural site and even …
Jazirat Al-Hamra (On tentative list)
Much has changed since the last review from 2023. The heritage village is now almost fully restored and open for business. It seems, they have big plans to promote this. …
Shimal (On tentative list)
Shimal includes prehistoric cemeteries and the remains of a medieval palace (Queen of Sheba’s Palace). The cemeteries are not marked on any map I found, so we went for the …
The Rock Art of the Emirate o… (On tentative list)
I somehow like rock art sites. Mostly it’s not about the art itself (they look like drawings of a five year old kid), but about the achievement, if you actually …
Ksar Hadada (Removed from tentat…)
Ksar Hedada might be off the TWHS, but it is probably the most visited site in the region. The Ksar was used as filming location for Star Wars: Episode 1 …
National Museum of Qatar (On tentative list)
When I visited during an unplanned stopover in July 2025, I had given this already a thumbs down, before I even stepped foot into the museum. There was no way, …
Djerba (Inscribed)
During our 5 nights resort holidays on Djerba, I managed to visit most of the components spread over several mornings. The WHS can roughly be divided into mosques and agricultural …
Tabon Cave (Nominated)
I visited the Tabon caves together with my adopted Norwegian family (Randi & Svein) as part of our Tubbataha trip in April 2025. There are 7 caves you can visit …
Kakadu National Park (Inscribed)
The Kakadu National Park is amazing. It was truly the highlight of my Australia trip and even though it was not even on my original plan, my only regret is …
Victorian Goldfields (On tentative list)
From the currently proposed components I visited the Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park. It’s only about 1h drive from Melbourne, so this might become an easy tick in the future.
…
Baltic Klint (On tentative list)
The best way to see the Baltic Klint according to my research would be to follow the Saka-Ontika-Toila road to see the Ontika Landscape Reserve. The Klint goes along the …
Old Town of Bar (On tentative list)
The current name for this TWHS is a bit misleading. The old town of Bar is not what you expect, when visiting an old town, but rather an archaeological site, …
Minoan Palatial Centres (Inscribed)
I visited Knossos and Malia during my weekend on Crete. Just like any site covered by Solivagant, the info about OUV and history is already covered, so I focus on …
Condominio theatres of Centra… (Nominated)
The historical theatres are currently scheduled for 2026, so it’s time for a deeper look. Here’s my “visitor” experience in 2025.
First of all, bad news for Tsunami and …
Møns Klint (Inscribed)
Møns Klint claims its OUV from the glacial landscape formation and being part of one of the world's largest glaciotectonic complexes. But much more significant what is described as “scenic …
