Introducing: Galleries

As a final new feature before we take a break to travel in September, we are now introducing Galleries.

They can be reached from each Site Page (WHS and TWHS). On the main site page, a set of featured images remains to introduce the site. It is displayed in a carousel - no longer automated (as it irritated some people), but it can be scrolled through using the arrows to the left and right.

Above these featured images, you will find a link to Gallery. This opens a new page that shows all the photos we have of this site. Look, for example, at the Pile Dwellings Gallery: it shows photos for each location as far as we have them (collected by Philipp, thanks!). The location photos are the same as displayed in the pop-ups when you click on one of our icons on the maps. We also show Point-of-Interest photos, Review photos and other categories if present.

If you click on one of the photos displayed on this page, you can view it in full size and original format.

The feature may need a bit of tweaking here and there, and the captions with the photos will surely improve if we give the photos we upload meaningful titles, but hey - who does not want to drool over all animal photos taken at the Galapagos Islands to finally see what a finch and a land iguana look like?

I just uploaded several pictures for 'the Gallery' to cover the majority of Joseon Royal Tomb components along with other photos I previously uploaded (and renamed). I included the name of the individual component in the title. This is a great feature, especially for serial WHS.

Thanks as well to Svein Eilas for dumping his collection of Struve Arc pictures! We now have 18 of the 34 locations covered.

Note to the (many!) people submitting images for the locations: 1 per location is enough. If it is especially beautiful, it might get a spot in the carousel, but we can only have one in the location pop-ups, and I add them via a random mix of first come first serve and last in first out (just what's the quickest way). So several pictures will stay unused (we will clear them later).
