The Kakemega Forest is part of the Tentative list of Kenya in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

Kakemega Forest is renowned for its rich avifauna. It is a very wet tropical rainforest with steep river valleys. The forest lies in the Victoria Basin forest-savanna mosaic ecoregion, but it also includes many species associated with the moist forests of the Guineo-Congolian region.
