The settlement of Joden Savanne and Cassipora cemetery is part of the Tentative list of Suriname in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
The former settlement of Joden Savanne and the cemetery at Cassipora are testament to Judaism in the Americas. A ruin remains of the 1685 synagogue of Joden Savanne. From the 17th century on, Jewish settlers were attracted by the British and Dutch colonial governments. They established agricultural plantations.
