The Hula
The Great Rift Valley - migratory routes - The Hula is part of the Tentative list of Israel in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
The Hula is a plain in northern Galilee at the foot of the Golan Heights. It is an important resting place for migratory birds that fly around the Mediterranean along its eastern shore and could be part of a transnational site of migratory routes along the Great Rift Valley. The deferred nomination from 2006 consisted of two small wetlands close to each other, the Hula reserve and the Lake Agamon.

The Hula used to centre around a lake that was dried up by the Zionist pioneers in favour of the establishment of new agricultural settlements. The last twenty years saw the reconstruction of the lake on a smaller scale. The area is still a central spot on the migratory routes of different bird species. Apart from the reconstructed lake and its visitor centre there isn't much to see in the area which is of high natural significance. It is a nice region to explore, mainly thanks to its greenery, otherwise so much out of the ordinary in Israel.
