Tartus: la cité-Citadelle des Crois is part of the Tentative list of Syria in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

Tartus is a citadel of Phoenician origin but extended by the Crusaders in the 12th century. They built the semi-fortified Cathedral of Our Lady of Tortosa over a Byzantine church. Romanesque and Gothic styles were used in the architecture and the decoration.
