.

Mari (Tell Hariri) is part of the Tentative list of Syria in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

Mari is the archaeological site of a city-state that flourished along the Euphrates trade routes. It dates from 2,900 BC and was purposely built. Its remains constitute a tell, that has only been partly excavated. Over 25,000 clay tablets in Akkadian language written in cuneiform were discovered. Findings have been shipped to the Louvre and museums in Syrian cities.
