La vieille ville de Zinder, quartier de Birni et le Sultanat is part of the Tentative list of Niger in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

The old city of Zinder comprises the remains of a fortified town. It is a former capital of Niger and had its heydays in the 19th and early 20th century. It was strategically located for the trans-Saharan trade and the capital of its own Sultanate since 1736. Many buildings are now in ruins. Notable constructions include the palace, the city gates and the Friday Mosque.
