Ecuador's Trans-Andean Train
Cultural Itinerary of Ecuador's Trans-Andean Train is part of the Tentative list of Ecuador in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
The Cultural Itinerary of Ecuador's Trans-Andean Train comprises a 450km long, narrow-gauge railway. The railway was inaugurated in 1908 and crosses both the coastal plains and the summits of the Andes, connecting for the first time those sides of the country. It starts in Alausí and there are 44 stations along the way until it reaches Bucay. The most difficult stretch to build was around “Devil’s Nose”, where a zigzag solution was applied.
