Gordion is part of the Tentative list of Turkey in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
Gordion comprises the archaeological site of the capital of ancient Phrygia. It dates from the 9th century BC. The citadel mound was enclosed by a wall; later the city was extended to lower and outer towns outside the walls. The area also holds over 150 tumuli, including the one for the Phrygian king Midas.
