Balhaf/Burum coastal area
Balhaf/Burum coastal area is part of the Tentative list of Yemen in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
Balhaf/Burum coastal area is a mixed site consisting of a coastal oasis bordering volcanic lava fields and the ancient ruins of Qana, the main port for the ancient kingdom of Hadramaut, and Burum, an old fishing village. The natural component contains an extinct volcano with a crater lake, coastal dunes with white sands and palm trees, and the bay of Mukalla, with wetlands populated by migrating birds from India and Africa. The cultural component includes the ruins of the city of Qana, a major starting point for the Incense Route, and the village of Burum.
