Dubrovnik

Timonator Germany - 23-Jul-21

Dubrovnik really is a or even the pearl of the Adria. It was my first time in Croatia and during a small Europe trip we drove down the Croatian coast from the north and it felt like Dubrovnik is the cultural escalation of the Croatian coast. Already on the way to Dubrovnik every stony bay with the cliffs and the green- blue water and small towns with red roods and a white church tower gets more and more beautiful. But Dubrovnik really is the peak of the beauty.

The street way takes quite long if you start like us in Poveč in Istria in the morning. It took about 8 hours of pure driving to reach Dubrovnik. The 15 minute drive through Bosnia and Herzegovina is unproblematic. It's only a short check of the ID at both sides of the border.

Hallstatt-Dachstein

Timonator Germany - 23-Jul-21

On a small Europe trip with the family of my girlfriend we have visitet the small village of Hallstatt in the big Hallstatt- Dachstein WHS region. Even though we were around with a big Mercedes Sprinter we were able ti drive across the village along the beautiful lake to a big parking space.

It seemed as if due to Corona restrictions the town was much emtier and therefore more appreciateble than before the pandemic

Euphrasian Basilica in Porec

Timonator Germany - 23-Jul-21

We stayed for two nights on a campground in Celena Laguna about 10 kms away from Poveč. A small street train brought us close to the old toen into the harbour. In the afternoon when the sun is hot there's not much going on in the old town. Only tens of restaurants try to convince one to sit on the many empty seats.

Many houses look not well maintained and close to a breakdown however it is a nice atmosphere with the Mediterranean Sea [...]

The Architectural Work of Le Corbusier

Timonator Germany - 21-Mar-20

The Architectural Work of Le Corbusier

Despite the start of Corona pandemy and the closing of all museums in Argentina the house of Le Corbusier in La Plata was still open to the public. I knew roughly were it was and almost ran past, but a nice guy that was the cashier stopped me from passing by. It costs not even 200 Pesos and I was able to run through the whole building without any restrictions. Only some drawers were locked but many cupboards were even openable. Not having any touchpoints with Le Corbusier before I checked his Wikipedia article in beforehand and what striked me most and made me dislike him was his assumed sympathy to national socialism in times of Nazi Germany. However being in the House I was able to focus on his architectural work

Colonia del Sacramento

Timonator Germany - 29-Feb-20

Colonia del Sacramento

I arrived at night in the very cheap but nice Toca Madera Hostel close to the Bus Terminal and the Barrio Historico which is the WHS on a small peninsula. The rest of Colonia lies aside the peninsula, but I didn't visit. The Barrio Historico is really full of nice looking restaurants and cafés which lie below the many poplars all around the place. In the Deli de las Rosas I ate a really nice yoghurt with muesli and fruits for low price. Really recommendable. In the evening I also had a nice but expensive dinner in a beautiful patio in the nice summer air. But enough of the food ads- I of course had a walk around the Barrio also. However I did not take use of the two tourist information centres
