WHS Dutch Water Defence LinesBeverwijk intervenes because of damage to Unesco World Heritage site Fort near Velsen
By order of the Beverwijk municipality, earthworks have been halted at Fort near Velsen, part of the Unesco World Heritage site of the Stelling van Amsterdam. To the dismay of heritage protectors, the private owner of the fort and the surrounding area has had monumental earth walls flattened, among other things.
No environmental permit had been granted for that work, the municipality says. We are going to talk to the owner about how to proceed. The zoning plan states that this is protected heritage and that means that very little is allowed there.'
