But I believe the area they are referring to is outside of the WHS, isn't it?
Yes -the inscribed site consists of 2 lake islands together with a chunk of land at the N East side of the lake. This discovery is on the SW side a fair distance away from any of them and on the "wrong side"!
Actually , several web based maps seem to show Nataruk as being rather a long way south west of the lake (follow the co-ordinates on the top RHS of this article - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nataruk,_Kenya
) but it seems that this must relate to a town/village of that name rather than to the site itself as yet another article refers to the site being "30kms" from today's lakeside (presumably "Nataruk" is the closest "town" ).http://www.sciencealert.com/humans-have-been-massacring-each-other-for-at-least-10-00 0-years-new-remains-reveal
It is interesting how these "coincidences" occur - as some may have noticed I have been investigating the time period of a number of unassigned African Natural sites and, whilst doing the investigation had noted that in the Holocene period (and on earlier occasions too) Lake Turkana had been both much larger/higher but ALSO had flowed INTO the NIle. (Currently its main water input is FROM the Omo River flowing into IT and it has no outflow - only evaporation!!)
