Gola National Parks
Country: Sierra Leone
TWHS?: Yes, https://whc.unesco.org/en/tentativelists/5747/
Short description of site: The most important mammals of conservation value and significance are pygmy hippopotamus, African forest elephant, zebra duiker chimpanzee, Diana monkey and western red colobus. All but the African elephant and chimpanzee are endemic to the Upper Guinea forests making Gola Forest exceptionally important for their conservation
Criteria: Natural

I support this proposal. An important biodiversity hotspot in West Africa and the first site for Sierra Leone.

Kasanka National Park

I support this proposal. Zambia is 3 times larger than the UK and only has 1 WHS! Kasanka National Park includes 114 mammal species and over 471 bird species. I could hear the WHC members repeat the phrase "largest mammal migration in the world" if the Advisory bodies gave this nomination any trouble.

Zakouma National Park (Chad)
Dallol and Erte Lava Lake (Ethiopia)
Gola National Parks (Sierra Leone)
Kasanga National Park (Zambia)
South Luangwa National Park (Zambia)

I think the transnational parks should be listed to:

ǀAi-ǀAis/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park (Namibia, South Africa)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C7%80Ai-%C7%80Ais/Richtersveld_Transfrontier_Park
Extension of Richtersveld to include Namibian side, specifically Fish River Canyon (2nd Largest in the World)

Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park (South Afrika, Zimbabwe, Mozambique)

I would like to advocate:

Full name of site: Les forets sèches de l'Andrefana (The dry forests of the west)
Country: Madagascar
TWHS?: Yes, https://www.worldheritagesite.org/tentative/id/5314
Short description of site: Madagascar contains five distinct biomes, each containing extremely high levels of endemism. Rainforests have already been inscribed in the site, Rainforests of the Atsinanana (East), but the other biomes are of equal importance from a ecological perspective. The tentative site currently consists of five protected areas in the Dry Deciduous Forest zone in the west of the island, and two from the Arid Spiny Forest zone in the south. All of these preserve habitats that are both extremely unique and severely endangered.
Criteria: Natural

Comment: My preference would be to split this into two sites. Taking the two Spiny Forest areas and combining them with the geographically coincident "Pays Mahafaly" sites, which have been languishing on the tentative list since 1997, would create one very special mixed site, in my opinion. However, even as proposed, this is an important site, worthy of inscription.

Angola, Africa's largest country has only one site. Some ideas:

Portugese Colonial Forts
=> Combine multiple tentative sites into a serial site. Or general Portugese heritage.

Portugese Colonial Churches
=> Combine multiple tentative sites into a serial site. Or general Portugese heritage.

Kissama National Park
For efforts at renaturalization after animals were killed during civil war.

Black stones of Pungo Andongo
If the Chinese can inscribe all rock formations...

Kalandula Falls
2nd Largest Waterfall in Africa

Serra da Leba
Stunning Mountain Road.

Welwitchas/Namib Desert
Transnational with Namibia

How about giving Sao Tome and Principe its first site?

Full name of site: Parque Natural Obô de São Tomé
Country: Sao Tome and Principe
TWHS?: No
Short description of site: (From Wikipedia) The park is known internationally amongst conservationists for its biologically rich dense virgin rainforests. It is also characterized by a wide range of biotopes, from lowland and mountain forests, to mangroves and savanna area, which contribute to its unique ecosystem. The park includes virgin Atlantic high altitude rainforest and secondary rainforest (known to locals as capoeira) which contains abandoned plantations. In 1988, scientists classified the forests of São Tomé and Príncipe as the second most important in terms of biological interest out of 75 forests of Africa; most of the species found in the islands are found in the national park. The WWF has listed the forests of the national park as among the Global 200, the 200 most important biological areas on the planet.
