meltwaterfalls:
I remember being so excited to see Place de la Concord, then when I got there it was just a road with an obalisk and fountain as a central reservation.

wow...if i am not favourable for giving WH properties in every direction and in particular in the case of just one city, I think you missed the interest of this Place! You should go back to Paris to see the perspective Louvre-Tuileries-Place de la Concorde-Champs-Elysées perpendicularly at another perspective with "rue Royale", which looks obvious from the Madeleine church. It's also different by night.

Hi Jeanbon, I appreciate I am very much in the minority on that one, and don't get wrong I rather like Paris as a whole, but the big sweeping boulevards really leave me cold.

I think it was because I was expecting Place de la Concord to be an actual public square. I understand that it has good views because of these boulevards, but as a destination it just isn't a particularly welcoming place.
As someone travelling through it, it is basically a big grey 14 lane highway you have to get across if you want to walk from the Louvre to the Arc de Triomphe.

Perhaps it is beacuse the priority of the space is with cars and that isn't really Hausmann's fault, but anything in an historic city centre where the priority isn't with pedestrians will need to do an awful lot to win me over, and even those big sweeping grand views of Parisian monuments didn't win me over here unfortunately.

This part of Paris is not concerned by the "Paris Haussmannien", it's not linked, so it's not actually his fault :)

Olympiapark
"Nach den Sommerferien entscheidet Bayerns Ministerrat, ob er den Antrag an die Kultusministerkonferenz des Bundes weitergibt. Und dort wird dann ein nationales Ranking erstellt, andere Bundesländer haben ja auch was anzubieten. Das dauert also noch, bis allein hierzulande alle Vorschläge abgearbeitet sind. Und das ist längst noch nicht das Ende."

Rough translation: Bavarian government to review. Then pass onto national conference of culture ministeries to decide if this is added to the Tentative List of Germany. ICOMOS Germany is in favor.

Munich Olympic Park to be proposed for UNESCO World Heritage Site status

King Jeongjo's Cultural Landscape: A serial extension (10 components) to Hwaseong Fortress that focuses on the reformer King Jeongjo (reign 1776-1800). His efforts to strengthen the nation are highlighted in the components. I find this aspiring nomination to be fascinating, but ultimately would be surprised to see such a diversion from the original WHS be approved by the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea. The linked components below provide a good overview, including a heavily repaired fortress during Jeongjo's Reign, irrigation works, and Buddhist/Confucian sites. I can see both some pros and cons to such an extension. I suspect it's too heavily focused on the aspirations of one historical person who died before enacting his full ambition. Jeongjo, had he lived longer may have succeeded in modernizing Korea a century before Japan orchestrated their brutal colonial regime. In this regard there is a kind of nostalgia "what if" sentiment that surrounds King Jeongjo within the Korean public.

The brochure of the candidacy is well done: https://candidature-patrimoine-mondial.sitesclunisiens.org/
They don't precise why 25, but it seems it's just the first candidacies with the possibility to extend the list around 60-90 sites...but timing and availabilities limit the number

Hmmm, I wonder if the Abbazia di San Pietro in Lamosa (near Brescia) might fit in... just to have one more for Italy! :-D But apart from that, it's a really remarkable place.
